Where Are Boat Marinas and Slips on Long Island?

Boat marinas and slips are available along nearly every major harbor, bay, river, and protected waterway on Long Island. The North Shore provides direct access to Long Island Sound and includes significant boating areas around Port Washington, Glen Cove, Oyster Bay, Huntington, Northport, Port Jefferson, and Mount Sinai.

Along the South Shore, marinas are located around East Rockaway, Oceanside, Freeport, Wantagh, Massapequa, Lindenhurst, Bay Shore, East Islip, and Patchogue, and the communities bordering Great South Bay. These facilities provide access to sheltered bays, ocean inlets, fishing grounds, waterfront restaurants, and popular destinations on Fire Island.

Farther east, boating facilities continue around Moriches Bay and Shinnecock Bay, including marinas near East Moriches, Remsenburg, Westhampton Beach, Hampton Bays, and Southampton. These waterways connect South Shore boating communities with ocean access and the western portion of the Hamptons.

The North Fork has a particularly strong boating culture, with marinas around Aquebogue, Mattituck, Cutchogue, Southold, and Greenport. These facilities serve boaters traveling through the Peconic Bays, Gardiners Bay, Shelter Island Sound, and Long Island Sound.

Major East End marina destinations include Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, East Hampton, and Montauk. Many of these marinas accommodate transient boaters, fishing vessels, cruisers, sailboats, and larger yachts while providing access to waterfront villages, restaurants, beaches, fishing charters, and other coastal attractions.

Marina access and slip policies vary by facility. Some marinas accept transient reservations and seasonal customers, while others primarily serve municipal residents, yacht-club members, charter fleets, commercial fishing boats, or customers using repair and storage services. Boaters should contact individual facilities to confirm slip availability, vessel-size limits, water depth, fuel service, electrical hookups, launch access, and reservation requirements.
