New York State Route 454 (NY-454), known as Veterans Memorial Highway, is a roughly 13-mile state highway in Suffolk County running from Commack east to Holbrook. It serves as one of central Long Island’s main east–west travel corridors, with access to Suffolk County offices, business districts, shopping areas, and Long Island MacArthur Airport.

Unlike Long Island’s parkways, Veterans Memorial Highway is a multi-lane divided arterial road open to standard passenger vehicles, buses, and commercial traffic. It is heavily used by commuters and is also an important route for airport trips and cross-county travel.

For visitors, NY-454 is best understood as a practical connector rather than a scenic drive. Traffic volumes, signal timing, and lane patterns can vary by time of day, so it is wise to allow extra time near the Suffolk County government complex, the Long Island Expressway (I-495), and airport approaches.
