History

The area that became East Massapequa was originally inhabited by the Massapequa people before European settlement expanded across Long Island during the seventeenth century. Much of the land remained agricultural through the nineteenth century before suburban development accelerated following World War II as Nassau County experienced significant population growth.

As new residential neighborhoods, schools, parks, and commercial areas were established, East Massapequa developed into a distinct community while remaining part of the Town of Oyster Bay. Today, it continues to be recognized as a stable residential hamlet with convenient access to employment centers throughout Long Island and New York City.
