Baywood is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Islip in southwestern Suffolk County, New York. History
The area now known as Baywood was originally inhabited by Indigenous peoples before European settlement expanded across central Long Island during the seventeenth century. Much of the land remained agricultural through the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries before suburban development accelerated following World War II.
As nearby communities such as Brentwood and Central Islip expanded, Baywood developed into a primarily residential neighborhood with schools, parks, and local businesses serving the growing population.
