Salisbury is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County, on central Long Island. Situated between East Meadow, Westbury, Levittown, and Plainview, Salisbury is a well-established suburban community known for its residential neighborhoods, excellent access to major roadways, and proximity to parks, shopping, and educational institutions.

History

Like many central Nassau County communities, Salisbury experienced significant growth following World War II as Long Island became one of the nation’s fastest-growing suburban regions. Former farmland was transformed into residential neighborhoods to accommodate returning veterans and their families. Today, Salisbury retains its suburban character while benefiting from its central location and convenient access to employment centers throughout Nassau County and New York City.

Salisbury is primarily composed of quiet residential streets lined with well-maintained single-family homes. Residents enjoy easy access to shopping centers, restaurants, healthcare facilities, and recreational amenities throughout the surrounding area. Nearby Long Island Rail Road stations in Westbury, Hicksville, and Carle Place provide rail service to Jamaica Station and Penn Station. Nassau Inter-County Express (NICE) buses also serve the surrounding area.
