South Valley Stream is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead in southwestern Nassau County, New York. History
The land that now comprises South Valley Stream was originally inhabited by Native American peoples before European settlement expanded across western Long Island during the seventeenth century. For much of its early history, the area consisted primarily of farmland and open countryside within the Town of Hempstead.
Residential development accelerated following World War II as Nassau County experienced significant suburban growth.
