Lido Beach is a coastal hamlet and census-designated place along Long Island’s South Shore in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County. Occupying part of the barrier island between Long Beach and Point Lookout, the community stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to Reynolds Channel. Lido Beach is known for its broad sandy shoreline, waterfront parkland, nearby golf, and a quieter residential atmosphere than some of its busier South Shore neighbors.

History

Lido Beach developed during the early 20th century, when investors and planners promoted the South Shore barrier island as a resort destination. Hotels, beach clubs, and seasonal cottages drew visitors seeking ocean air, bathing beaches, and easy access from the New York metropolitan area.

Over time, the area evolved into a more established year-round community. While much of the old resort culture faded, Lido Beach retained its coastal identity through its beaches, parkland, and waterfront setting.
