MOUNT SINAI, N.Y. – Mount Sinai entrepreneur Donna Colonna, founder of the independent media and entertainment platform Donna After Dark, has advanced to the top ten in her group in the national 2026 Top Host competition. Her official contestant profile listed her in first place within that group when reviewed October 30.

The advancement follows the competition’s October 29 cutoff; contestants are now competing for a place in their group’s top five. That round is scheduled to close November 5. The group placement is an intermediate stage of the national competition, with additional rounds ahead before an overall winner is selected.

Operated by Colossal, Top Host offers one grand prize winner $25,000, the opportunity to participate in a six-episode podcast produced by iHeartRadio, and a guest appearance on On Air with Ryan Seacrest. Advancement is determined by public voting, with one free vote available every 24 hours and additional votes available through donations.

The competition supports the Ryan Seacrest Foundation through its fundraising arrangement with the nonprofit Action Initiative Team. The foundation creates interactive broadcast studios in children’s hospitals, giving young patients opportunities to explore entertainment, interview guests and participate in programming.

From Technology Sales to Independent Entertainment

For Colonna, the competition is part of a broader effort to build an independent media business on Long Island.

According to background materials provided, Colonna spent 15 years in enterprise technology sales before founding Donna After Dark. The platform brings together podcasting, digital publishing, satire and experimental storytelling, with programming that explores creativity, cultural change and human connection.

Her projects include Sovereign Search, a fictional extraterrestrial dating comedy series; the satirical No Bunghole Hotline; and The Adaptation Era, an editorial series examining how emerging technology is changing creative work and independent media.

The programming draws on science-fiction themes, exaggerated characters and unconventional humor. Colonna has also incorporated original comedy into her competition campaign, using entertainment to introduce audiences to her work and the contest’s charitable connection.

“My philosophy is that you don’t have to sacrifice humor to have a meaningful conversation,” Colonna said in her announcement. “Sometimes the most ridiculous idea is the one that gets people listening. What matters is what you do with their attention.”

Building a Media Platform on Long Island

Colonna’s media kit describes Donna After Dark as an effort to combine creative ownership with increasingly accessible production tools. Her work includes AI-assisted creative production alongside original writing, podcast conversations and multimedia projects.

Through The Adaptation Era, including material titled The White Space, she explores the opportunities available to independent creators as technology changes the cost and process of producing and distributing entertainment. Donna After Dark serves as her practical experiment in that approach, bringing several formats together under one independently developed brand.

The Top Host competition offers a potential opportunity to reach a wider audience while she continues developing the platform from Suffolk County. Her announcement identifies original programming, media partnerships and further storytelling projects among her priorities.
