Pumpkin Picking on Long Island

Pumpkin picking on Long Island is one of the region’s classic fall traditions, with farms ranging from simple on-the-vine U-pick fields to large family destinations with corn mazes, hayrides, farm animals, cider doughnuts and full fall festivals. Most of Long Island’s true pumpkin-picking farms are in Suffolk County, with major concentrations around Manorville, Riverhead, the North Fork and the Hamptons.
The farms in this guide were selected because they provide an actual pumpkin-picking, U-pick field or public pumpkin-patch experience rather than simply selling pre-picked pumpkins. Some allow visitors to choose pumpkins directly from the vine, while others operate field-style picking areas or larger festival attractions where pumpkin picking is part of a broader fall outing.
Last updated: September 30, 2026. The 2026 pumpkin-picking season is underway. Farm hours, pumpkin availability, admission policies and weather-related closures can change during the season, so confirm current conditions directly with the farm before traveling.
Visitors planning a larger autumn outing may also want to use our guides to apple picking on Long Island, haunted houses and Halloween attractions, and fall festivals and farm activities.

Pumpkin Picking by Region
Visitors in western Suffolk County have several options without committing to a full East End trip. Farms in Huntington, Melville and Bay Shore range from relatively traditional pumpkin fields to full family fall festivals.
Farther east, Brookhaven, Wading River and Manorville provide a transition into the more agricultural parts of eastern Suffolk County. Several of the Island’s larger festival-style farms are concentrated in this area.
The greatest concentration of pumpkin farms is on and around the North Fork, including Calverton, Riverhead, Aquebogue, Mattituck and Jamesport. These communities offer everything from quiet vine-picking fields to large farm attractions with apples, food, music and children’s activities.
On the South Fork, Water Mill and Bridgehampton provide several pumpkin-picking options within the broader Hamptons. These farms can be combined with other East End destinations, although October traffic should be considered when planning a weekend trip.
Planning a Pumpkin-Picking Trip
September and October are the primary pumpkin-picking months on Long Island, but availability depends on the weather and the crop. October weekends can bring heavy traffic to Riverhead, the North Fork and the Hamptons, so arriving near opening time or visiting on a weekday can make a substantial difference.
Admission structures vary widely. Some farms charge a general festival admission, some allow free entry to the pumpkin field and charge separately for attractions, and others primarily charge for pumpkins by weight or size. Before leaving home, confirm whether pumpkin picking is open that day, how pumpkins are priced, what admission includes and whether advance tickets are required.

How We Chose These Pumpkin-Picking Farms
This directory focuses on Long Island farms that provide an actual pumpkin-picking, U-pick field or public pumpkin-patch experience. Garden centers and farm stands that only sell pre-picked pumpkins are not included simply because they stock pumpkins during fall.
We also distinguish farms that specifically document on-the-vine picking from broader field and festival-style experiences. Current seasonal information was reviewed using official farm websites and published 2026 updates, but conditions can change quickly during October because of weather, crop availability and attendance.
For a simple trip close to western Long Island, a large family fall festival or a day spent walking through genuine pumpkin fields on the East End, Long Island offers several very different ways to pick a pumpkin. The interactive map above is designed to make those differences easier to compare.
