MASSAPEQUA PARK, NY – Nassau County Police announced the arrest of a Seaford man on multiple charges, including Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law, following a crash in Massapequa Park on Friday night.
Police said the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on August 15, 2025, when officers from the Seventh Precinct responded to Harbor Lane after reports of an auto accident. An investigation determined that the driver, identified as 42-year-old Francisco Pimentel of Parkside Drive, was behind the wheel of a 2010 GMC that struck a parked, unoccupied vehicle.
Officers noted Pimentel displayed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, watery eyes, unsteady balance, and the odor of alcohol. He was given a field sobriety test, which he failed, and was taken into custody without incident.
Authorities later discovered that five children, ages 10, 11, 11, 12, and 13, were passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash. All were released to relatives, while three were transported to local hospitals for precautionary evaluation.
Pimentel now faces five counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (child under 16) under Leandra’s Law, five counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and two counts of Driving While Intoxicated. He was scheduled for arraignment on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at First District Court in Hempstead.
Leandra’s Law, passed in New York State in 2009, makes it a felony to drive while intoxicated with a child under the age of 16 in the vehicle. The law was named after 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, who was killed in a drunk-driving crash in Manhattan. In addition to felony charges, the law also requires the installation of ignition interlock devices for all drivers convicted of DWI offenses.
