NORTH LAWRENCE, NY – The Nassau County Homicide Squad has released new details surrounding a fatal vehicular accident that shook the community on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at approximately 7:20 pm. According to detectives, an unidentified female pedestrian was tragically struck by a vehicle while crossing Burnside Avenue, walking northbound at Washington Place. The vehicle failed to stop, fleeing the scene, leaving the victim with severe trauma. Despite efforts, the pedestrian, later identified as Esmeralda Larios-Perez, 34, of Inwood, succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

In a recent update provided by Detectives Sergeant Hussain of the Homicide Squad on January 31, 2024, the squad announces the apprehension of Melvin Deleon, 35, of 80 Wallace Street, Freeport, in connection with the aforementioned incident. Deleon faces charges related to the fatal accident and was scheduled for arraignment today, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
