How to Use the Map

Use the venue-type filter to separate performing arts centers, professional and regional theaters, concert and live-entertainment venues, community theaters, university stages, and outdoor performance spaces. The programming filter can narrow the map further for theater, live music, comedy, dance, family programming, or film and screening events.

You can also browse by county or region, including Nassau County, western and central Suffolk County, the North Fork and Riverhead area, and the Hamptons and East End. The quick buttons provide shortcuts to popular categories, while the “Jump to a Venue” menu moves directly to a particular theater or performance center. Each map marker includes the venue address, programming focus, telephone number when available, official website, and driving directions.

What Is Included

This directory focuses on established Long Island venues where live performance is a primary or substantial part of the visitor experience. That includes professional theater companies, regional playhouses, multidisciplinary performing arts centers, historic theaters now used for concerts and stage events, major university arts centers, community theaters, and selected outdoor stages.

Ordinary movie theaters are excluded because they have their own directory. Small bars, restaurants with occasional music, school auditoriums without a regular public performance calendar, and temporary festival stages are also outside the scope of this map. The goal is to provide a useful directory of recognizable destinations where visitors can reasonably plan an evening or day around a scheduled performance.

Professional Theater and Broadway-Style Productions

Visitors looking specifically for staged musicals and plays have several strong options. The John W. Engeman Theater in Northport, The Gateway in Bellport, The Argyle Theatre in Babylon, Theatre Three in Port Jefferson, Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, and North Fork Community Theatre in Mattituck all maintain theater-focused calendars, although the scale and production model vary considerably from venue to venue.

Some multidisciplinary venues also present theatrical productions alongside concerts, comedy, dance, or family programming. Tilles Center and Patchogue Theatre are good examples of venues where the calendar can change substantially from one week to the next.

Concerts, Comedy, Dance and Other Live Entertainment

Not every venue on the map operates primarily as a traditional playhouse. The Paramount, The Space at Westbury, Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair, Boulton Center, and The Suffolk lean heavily toward concerts, comedy, touring acts, and one-night live events. University and arts-center venues such as Tilles Center and Staller Center often mix music, dance, theater, film, lectures, and family programming within the same season.

Planning a Night at the Theater

Because the venues range from downtown theaters to university campuses and East End arts centers, the visitor experience can be very different from one location to another. Downtown venues in Huntington, Patchogue, Babylon, Riverhead, Port Jefferson, and Sag Harbor can often be paired with nearby restaurants and nightlife. Campus venues generally have dedicated or nearby parking but may require additional time to navigate university entrances and event lots.

Ticketing, seating layouts, late-seating rules, parking procedures, accessibility services, bag policies, concessions, and box-office hours can vary by production. Always check the official venue website before leaving home, especially for seasonal programs, outdoor performances, sold-out events, or productions with special entry requirements.

Research Methodology

The directory was assembled as a location-based research guide to established live-performance destinations in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Venue names, current operating status, addresses, public contact information, official websites, and programming focus were reviewed against current venue information and Long Island Guide’s existing venue coverage. The map uses embedded coordinates rather than runtime geocoding. Because event calendars and venue operations can change, time-sensitive information should always be confirmed with the venue before attending.
