Apple Picking on Long Island

Apple picking on Long Island is one of the region’s signature fall activities, with pick-your-own orchards concentrated across the East End. The 2026 apple-picking season is now well underway, with orchards across the North Fork, the Riverhead and Calverton area, and the Hamptons offering opportunities to pick apples during the fall harvest.
October remains an important part of apple season, but available varieties change as different apples ripen and individual orchard blocks are picked out. Some farms concentrate primarily on fruit picking, while others combine their orchards with pumpkin patches, corn mazes, hayrides, children’s attractions, cider doughnuts, farm markets, hard cider and other seasonal activities.
Use the interactive map to compare orchard style, picking schedules, region and additional fall activities. Select a map marker or directory card for the orchard’s address, typical season, apple-picking program, official website, phone number and directions.
Last updated: September 30, 2026. Apple-picking schedules and crop availability are based on the latest published information from participating orchards. Because fruit availability can change quickly, confirm current picking conditions directly with the farm before traveling.
When Is Apple-Picking Season on Long Island?
Long Island’s apple-picking season generally begins in late August or early September and continues through October, with some orchards operating into early November when fruit and weather conditions allow. Early-season apples can be ready before Labor Day, while later varieties ripen throughout September and October.
The calendar is only a general guide because apple picking follows the harvest rather than a fixed schedule. Different varieties ripen at different times, and heavily visited orchard blocks can be picked out before the farm’s overall season ends. Weather, crop size and growing conditions can also affect availability from year to year.
A farm can therefore remain open even when apple picking is limited or temporarily unavailable. Visitors interested in a particular variety should check the orchard’s latest crop update, website, social media or recorded phone information shortly before leaving home.

Harbes Orchard is a large family-oriented apple-picking destination offering dozens of apple varieties during the season. Harbes Farms Jamesport
1223 NY-25, Jamesport, NY 11947
The Jamesport Harbes location provides a different experience centered heavily around its Honeycrisp apple orchard. The 2026 fall season operates on weekends through November 1 and combines apple picking with pumpkins, hayrides, a corn maze, seasonal fields and family activities.
Lewin Farms
812 Sound Ave, Calverton, NY 11933
Lewin Farms is a longstanding pick-your-own operation where apples are part of a much broader harvest calendar. The farm also offers pumpkins and numerous other seasonal crops during the year. Because picking at Lewin is particularly dependent on what is ripe and available, visitors should check the farm’s current crop information before traveling.
Windy Acre Orchard
3810 Middle Country Rd, Calverton, NY 11933
Windy Acre is a family orchard and farm destination offering seasonal apple picking along with fall produce, baked goods, cider doughnuts and family activities. Its more traditional orchard setting provides an alternative to some of the larger festival-style fall attractions on the East End.
Woodside Orchards – Aquebogue
729 Main Rd, Aquebogue, NY 11931
Woodside’s Aquebogue location began its 2026 U-pick apple season on September 21 and offers weekday apple picking during the season. The location also combines the orchard experience with Woodside’s cider operation, tasting room, baked goods and other apple products, making it particularly useful for visitors looking for apple picking outside the busiest fall weekends.
Woodside Orchards – Jamesport
116 Manor Ln, Jamesport, NY 11947
Woodside’s Jamesport orchard began 2026 apple picking on September 19 and operates U-pick on weekends. This is Woodside’s more traditional orchard location, where visitors can combine apple picking with cider, cider doughnuts, baked goods and hard cider.
Wickham’s Fruit Farm
28700 Main Rd, Cutchogue, NY 11935
Wickham’s is a historic working North Fork fruit farm offering seasonal U-pick apples along with cider, cider doughnuts and other farm-grown fruit. The experience is more closely tied to a traditional working orchard than a large amusement-style fall festival, and apple availability varies with the harvest.
Milk Pail U-Pick Farm
50 Horsemill Ln, Water Mill, NY 11976
Milk Pail is a Halsey family orchard with more than 20 apple varieties and dwarf trees that make much of the fruit easy to reach. Its 2026 U-pick season operates on weekends from Labor Day weekend through Halloween weekend, weather permitting, with an additional picking day scheduled for Monday, October 12. Pumpkin picking is also available during the fall.
Hank’s Pumpkintown
240 Montauk Hwy, Water Mill, NY 11976
Hank’s combines apple picking with one of the South Fork’s larger fall attractions. Apple picking is offered Saturdays, Sundays and school holidays through November 1 during the 2026 season. Visitors can also find pumpkin picking, corn mazes, wagon rides, games, children’s attractions and seasonal food at the property.
Seven Ponds Orchard
65 Seven Ponds Rd, Water Mill, NY 11976
Seven Ponds is a family-oriented U-pick orchard offering apples and seasonal produce along with fall activities that can include a corn maze, hayrides, children’s attractions and a farm market. As with other smaller orchards, current picking conditions should be checked directly before making the trip.
North Fork Apple Picking
The largest concentration of apple-picking farms is on and around the North Fork. Riverhead, Calverton, Aquebogue, Jamesport and Cutchogue provide several different orchard experiences, ranging from traditional working farms to larger family attractions with mazes, pumpkins, food and entertainment.
The concentration of farms also makes it possible to build a larger East End day trip around apple picking. Farm stands, vineyards, breweries, restaurants and other seasonal destinations are spread throughout the same agricultural region, although fall weekends can bring significant traffic to the North Fork.
Apple Picking in the Hamptons
Water Mill is the main apple-picking center on the South Fork. Milk Pail U-Pick Farm, Hank’s Pumpkintown and Seven Ponds Orchard are located within a relatively small area, giving visitors several distinctly different fall experiences without traveling between distant parts of the Hamptons.
Milk Pail places greater emphasis on the orchard and fruit-picking experience, while Hank’s combines apple picking with a much larger collection of fall attractions. Seven Ponds provides another family-oriented orchard option. Picking days, admission policies and available activities differ, so visitors should compare the farms before choosing where to go.
Where Can You Pick Apples on a Weekday?
Weekday apple picking is more limited than weekend picking on Long Island, making the operating schedule an important part of choosing an orchard. Woodside Orchards’ Aquebogue location is particularly notable because its 2026 U-pick schedule includes weekday picking, while its Jamesport orchard operates U-pick on weekends. Other farms may offer weekday picking at various points in the season, but schedules can change with crop availability.
Visitors trying to avoid peak weekend crowds should confirm weekday availability directly with the orchard shortly before traveling. A farm’s market, tasting room or other attractions may be open even when its U-pick orchard is closed.
Choosing the Right Apple-Picking Farm
The right orchard depends on the type of outing you want. Visitors mainly interested in picking fruit may prefer a traditional working orchard, while families looking for a full fall day may want a farm with pumpkins, corn mazes, hayrides, play areas, food and other activities. Harbes and Hank’s offer particularly broad fall experiences, while Wickham’s and Milk Pail provide a stronger traditional orchard component. Woodside is notable for combining apples with its hard-cider operation.
Picking policies also vary considerably. Farms may charge by the bag, require admission, limit the number of people admitted with each picking bag, restrict U-pick to particular days, or require advance tickets. Before leaving home, confirm the current crop, hours, pricing, payment policies and whether reservations or advance admission are required.
What Apples Can You Pick on Long Island?
Long Island orchards grow a broad range of early-, mid- and late-season apples. Depending on the farm and point in the harvest, varieties can include Honeycrisp, Gala, McIntosh, Macoun, Empire, Fuji, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Jonagold and others. No single variety should be assumed to be available throughout the entire season.
Visitors searching for a specific apple should contact the orchard or check its latest harvest update before traveling. A variety advertised as part of a farm’s overall crop may have a relatively short picking window and can be exhausted quickly during busy weekends.
Plan a Fall Day on Long Island
Apple picking fits naturally into a larger fall outing. Visitors can also explore our guide to pumpkin picking on Long Island, our directory of Halloween haunted houses and attractions, and our guide to fall festivals and farm activities across Long Island. Many East End farms combine several of these experiences at the same property or are located within a short drive of other seasonal attractions.
Before You Go
Apple availability can change quickly throughout September and October. Weather, ripening schedules, crop size and weekend crowds can affect which varieties are open for picking, and farms may close orchard sections without much notice when fruit has been picked out or field conditions are poor.
Always check the orchard’s official website, social media or recorded phone message shortly before your visit, especially if you are traveling a significant distance or hoping to pick a particular apple variety. Also check whether the farm accepts credit cards, requires advance tickets or has restrictions on outside bags, pets, strollers or food.
Research Methodology
This directory focuses on farms and orchards with evidence of public pick-your-own apple operations on Long Island. Farms that sell locally grown or pre-picked apples but do not offer public apple picking were not included. Location, contact, seasonal and activity information was reviewed using official farm websites and current public business information.
Because U-pick agriculture is highly seasonal, inclusion in this guide does not mean apples will necessarily be available on every day that a farm is open. Operating dates, varieties, crop availability, prices, admission policies and attractions should always be confirmed directly with the orchard.
