OCEANSIDE, NY – A Brooklyn woman has been arrested in Oceanside and charged under Leandra’s Law after police say she was driving intoxicated with a 7-year-old child unrestrained in the backseat.

According to Nassau County Police, officers observed a 2015 Nissan swerving and failing to maintain its lane on Long Beach Road near Tilrose Avenue at approximately 10:32 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. Police conducted a traffic stop and, upon approaching the vehicle, saw a young boy sitting in the backseat without any seatbelt or child restraint.

Officers determined that the driver, identified as Paula Gregg-Stanton, 34, of Emmons Avenue in Brooklyn, was intoxicated. She was taken into custody without incident. The 7-year-old child was safely released to a family member.

Gregg-Stanton is charged with two counts of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. She is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at First District Court in Hempstead.
