International Emmy Awards Bring Global Glamour to New York; Cognac Wellerlane Reports From the Red Carpet

NEW YORK, NY – The world of television sparkled in Manhattan on November 24 as stars, creators, and media executives from across the globe gathered for the 53rd International Emmy® Awards. I had the pleasure of walking the red carpet, meeting nominees and presenters, and speaking with some of the evening’s most celebrated international talent.
The Gala, held in New York City and hosted by Live with Kelly and Mark co-hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, brought together honorees from nine countries, celebrating a year of standout storytelling across drama, documentary, current affairs, comedy, kids’ programming, and more.
This year’s event also paid tribute to two influential industry figures. Dana Walden, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, received the Founders Emmy® for her decades of shaping landmark series such as Glee, Grey’s Anatomy, Homeland, and This Is Us. The Directors Award went to João Roberto Marinho, Chairman and President of Grupo Globo, recognized for his leadership and commitment to independent journalism.
Throughout the evening, stars made their way down the carpet eager to celebrate the achievements of international television. I spoke with actors, producers, and creators about their craft, the global expansion of storytelling, and how the Emmy recognition is transforming their careers. Many reflected on how television has become an ever-stronger cultural bridge – an idea echoed by International Academy President & CEO Bruce L. Paisner, who highlighted the unifying power of the medium in a year marked by global uncertainty.

A Night of Major Wins Across the Globe
Sixteen Emmys were presented across competitive categories. Among the night’s most notable victories:
- Oriol Pla won Best Performance by an Actor for his gripping role in the Spanish drama Yo, adicto, portraying a man confronting addiction and rebuilding his life.
- Anna Maxwell Martin took home Best Performance by an Actress for her riveting work in the U.K. thriller Until I Kill You.
- The U.K. series Rivals – set in 1980s England and filled with political intrigue – captured the award for Best Drama Series.
- The Turkish production Deha (The Good & The Bad) earned the Telenovela Emmy with a story of family loyalty, ambition, and moral struggle.
- Australia’s beloved children’s hit Bluey continued its international streak with another Emmy win.

Other winning programs covered topics ranging from the war in Ukraine (Hell Jumper), to the first two weeks of the Gaza conflict (Gaza, Search For Life), to deeply personal stories like Japan’s Ryuichi Sakamoto: Last Days, which follows the legendary composer in his final year.
A Global Celebration of Storytelling
From the dramatic energy inside the theater to the electric excitement on the carpet, the 2025 International Emmy Awards once again demonstrated how international productions continue to shape the future of television. For audiences on Long Island and around the world, these stories prove that creativity knows no borders, and neither does the power of a great performance.
