WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY – Nassau County Police announced the arrest of three individuals – including a Baldwin man – following a weapons-related incident that occurred Wednesday evening, October 15, 2025, on Grand Avenue in West Hempstead.

According to detectives from the Fifth Squad, Strategic Response Team (SRT) officers were dispatched to 256 Grand Avenue at approximately 8:27 p.m. after a 911 caller reported that a firearm had been displayed. Upon arrival, officers encountered a large group gathered outside and a white 2016 BMW with its engine running. A male subject was observed leaning against the vehicle.

As officers initiated their investigation and activated their emergency lights, Tyrese Ashley, 24, of Roosevelt, fled the scene on foot. He was apprehended a short time later by responding units and taken into custody.

Meanwhile, the operator of the BMW allegedly attempted to back out and leave the area but was stopped by police. Officers reported that the driver, later identified as Jonathan Romage, 21, of Baldwin, began making suspicious movements and appeared to reach for a bag he was wearing. When instructed to exit the vehicle, Romage allegedly became combative, prompting a physical struggle before officers were able to subdue and arrest him.

A search of the bag reportedly revealed a loaded 9mm handgun, which was recovered as evidence.

During the ongoing investigation, a third individual – Alyssa Horgan, 20, of West Hempstead – allegedly became aggressive, charged at officers, and kicked one officer in the knee. She was also placed under arrest. The injured officer was later transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Romage faces multiple charges, including two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd Degree, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th Degree, Unlawful Assembly, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree.

Horgan is charged with Assault in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful Assembly, and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree.
