
JERICHO, N.Y. – Nassau County police announced the arrest of a Roosevelt man accused of repeatedly abusing a woman with disabilities during his employment as a van driver for the Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC).
Investigators said Steven Harrison, 62, of Powell Street, allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a 24-year-old woman while transporting her home as part of his assigned route. The encounters reportedly took place beginning in March 2022 in the parking lot of a Home Depot on Jericho Turnpike.
On September 18, 2025, the victim, now 27, disclosed the incidents to a family member, who then contacted police. Following an investigation, Harrison was taken into custody without incident on September 23 at the AHRC facility on Wheatley Road in Brookville.
Harrison faces multiple charges, including:
- Rape in the 3rd Degree
- Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person in the 1st Degree
- Sexual Abuse in the 2nd Degree
He is scheduled for arraignment on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at First District Court in Hempstead.
