UNIONDALE, NY – A 35-year-old man from El Salvador has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a Roosevelt man who was found early Monday morning in Uniondale, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Police identified the defendant as Jorge Alexander Huezo Villatoro and the victim as Tadeo Alvarado-Chavez, 40, of Roosevelt.

First Precinct officers responded to a 911 call for an aided person in the vicinity of 979 Nassau Road at approximately 4:05 a.m. on September 14, 2026. Officers found Alvarado-Chavez at the location, where he was pronounced dead by a Nassau County Police medic.

Additional details about what allegedly preceded the killing emerged following Villatoro’s arrest. ABC7 New York reported that police said the incident stemmed from a dispute at Frontera Bar in Uniondale at approximately 2 a.m.

According to the report, Alvarado-Chavez was punched during the dispute, left the bar and returned about two hours later carrying a machete. Police said a bystander and Villatoro disarmed him.

Investigators allege Villatoro then obtained another machete, followed Alvarado-Chavez behind the strip mall and attacked him. Prosecutors allege Villatoro struck Alvarado-Chavez in the head and body and continued the attack after he fell to the ground.

Nassau County Police Homicide Det. Lt. Daniel Steller told ABC7 that Alvarado-Chavez was unarmed and attempting to get away when the fatal attack occurred. Prosecutors also said Villatoro refused to provide information to police following his arrest.

Newsday also reported on Villatoro’s arrest and the circumstances authorities allege led to the killing.

Villatoro was arraigned Friday, September 18, at First District Court in Hempstead. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded, according to ABC7. If convicted of second-degree murder, he faces 25 years to life in prison.

The allegations against Villatoro have not been proven in court.
