PATCHOGUE, NY -A Swedish national who admitted to acting as a drug courier in a cocaine trafficking operation has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after authorities said she attempted to retrieve approximately 10 kilograms of cocaine shipped into Suffolk County from California.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, 26-year-old Amanda Abrahamsson pleaded guilty earlier this year to first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class A-I felony under New York law. Prosecutors said the narcotics were transported through a FedEx shipping facility before being intercepted by investigators.

District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney said the case involved a coordinated investigation between the Suffolk County Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations. Authorities alleged Abrahamsson traveled from outside the region specifically to collect the drug shipment and participate in the distribution operation.

Court records indicate the packages, which contained individually wrapped kilograms of cocaine, were shipped from California to Suffolk County in August 2024. Investigators reportedly became aware of the shipment after the packages were flagged during transit at a FedEx facility.

During the investigation, law enforcement officials learned that a woman later identified as Abrahamsson contacted FedEx regarding the status of the packages and later visited a FedEx location in Bohemia seeking information about them. Investigators then arranged for the parcels to be retrieved at a Walgreens location in Patchogue as part of an undercover operation.

Authorities said Abrahamsson arrived at the store on September 3, 2024, accepted the packages from an undercover officer, and was immediately taken into custody. Prosecutors said she was carrying two cell phones at the time of her arrest, including one allegedly used to communicate with both FedEx representatives and investigators during the operation.

Following her arrest, Abrahamsson reportedly provided a written confession acknowledging her involvement in the attempted drug pickup and distribution scheme.

She formally entered a guilty plea on April 3, 2026, before Timothy Mazzei in New York Supreme Court. On May 8, 2026, Justice Mazzei sentenced her to 10 years in state prison.

Federal immigration authorities have also lodged a detainer against Abrahamsson. According to prosecutors, she is expected to face deportation proceedings by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after completing her prison sentence.
