The Mansion at Glen Cove is a historic estate, hotel and event venue at 200 Dosoris Lane in Glen Cove, on the North Shore of Long Island. Built in 1910 for John Teele Pratt and Ruth Baker Pratt, the Georgian-style mansion was originally known as The Manor. Its brick exterior, columned entrance and landscaped grounds connect the property to the country estates that shaped Nassau County’s Gold Coast.

The Pratt Family Estate

Architect Charles Adams Platt designed the mansion as a country residence for the Pratt family. John Teele Pratt was the son of Charles Pratt, whose fortune was associated with the oil industry and Standard Oil. The estate belonged to a wider network of Pratt family properties in Glen Cove, reflecting the family’s influence on this part of Long Island.

Ruth Baker Pratt also holds a place in national political history. Elected in 1928, she became the first woman to represent New York in Congress and served in the House of Representatives from 1929 to 1933. The U.S. House of Representatives’ biography records that she died at her Glen Cove home, The Manor House, in 1965.

Architecture and Gold Coast Character

The mansion’s balanced facade, red brick walls and prominent two-story portico give it a formal appearance. White columns frame the main entrance, while the grounds provide a landscaped approach to the building. Inside, the property’s historic features include a grand staircase, decorative woodwork and period fixtures, according to the mansion’s published history.

Its architecture offers a useful introduction to the Gold Coast’s country-house tradition. These estates combined substantial residences with extensive grounds, creating retreats from New York City that also served as settings for entertaining. The Mansion at Glen Cove preserves that residential origin while accommodating a different kind of gathering today.

From Private Home to Hotel and Event Venue

The property entered its conference-center era in 1967 and was known as Harrison House during part of its hospitality history. Today, The Mansion at Glen Cove operates as a hotel and venue for weddings, social celebrations, corporate meetings and other organized events.

The operator describes a 55-acre property with 186 guest rooms and more than 25,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space. On-site accommodations allow guests attending a wedding or conference to stay at the same property. Specific room arrangements, event spaces and package inclusions should be confirmed directly with the venue.

Planning a Visit

Plan a visit around a hotel reservation, scheduled event or arrangement confirmed with the property. Visitors interested primarily in the architecture should ask about access before arriving, since weddings and private functions can affect which areas are available.

The mansion lists complimentary self-parking for hotel guests. Rail travelers can take the Long Island Rail Road to the Glen Cove area and arrange a taxi or other local transportation for the final leg. Consult the property’s contact and directions page for arrival information.

A stay can also be paired with time in downtown Glen Cove or a visit to nearby Sea Cliff. The surrounding North Shore provides a broader setting of waterfront communities and historic estates, making the mansion a useful starting point for exploring the area’s architectural character.
