ELMONT, NY – A homeless or ‘undomiciled‘ man was arrested early Tuesday morning in Elmont following a reported larceny and a violent confrontation with police that left two officers injured, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Detectives assigned to the department’s Fifth Squad said officers responded to a residence on Holland Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m. on January 20, 2026, after receiving a report of a larceny in progress. When officers arrived, they discovered the rear passenger-side window of a 2023 Chevrolet had been shattered and an unknown man inside the backseat of the vehicle.

Police identified the suspect as Maynor Ponce, 41. Authorities said that during the investigation and subsequent arrest, Ponce became violent and combative while resisting officers. Two responding officers sustained injuries during the struggle.

Following the arrest, investigators reported that Ponce was found in possession of a substance believed to be crack cocaine. Further checks also revealed that he had an active Nassau County warrant, police said.
