Point Lookout is a small seaside hamlet on the eastern end of the Long Beach Barrier Island in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County. Surrounded by Reynolds Channel, Jones Inlet, and the Atlantic Ocean, the community offers quiet beachside living, boating access, and sweeping coastal scenery. Known for its laid-back vibe and strong local pride, Point Lookout feels worlds away while remaining close to the rest of Long Island and New York City.

History

Point Lookout developed in the early 20th century as a seasonal beach community. Over time, many cottages gave way to year-round homes, creating a neighborhood with a mix of summer visitors and full-time residents.

The hamlet’s position at the inlet made it important for navigation and fishing. Today, Point Lookout still reflects its maritime roots, with marinas, docks, and waterfront homes lining much of the shoreline.

Community & Lifestyle

Point Lookout is known for being peaceful, scenic, and highly residential. The streets are quiet, the pace is relaxed, and many residents enjoy walking, biking, and spending time outdoors.
