The Nassau County Sheriff’s Department is one of the county’s long-established law enforcement agencies and predates the creation of the Nassau County Police Department in 1925. Today, the department is primarily responsible for corrections, court security, inmate transport, and civil enforcement rather than routine neighborhood patrol.

Its deputies, correction officers, and support staff help maintain safety within the county jail system, support courthouse operations, and carry out a range of court-ordered civil actions. For most residents, interaction with the Sheriff’s Department is tied to court matters, civil process, records, or inmate-related services.

Corrections

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Department operates the Nassau County Correctional Center in East Meadow.
