Freeport Man Arrested After Officers Discover Fake Inspection Sticker During Traffic Stop in Massapequa; Assault Alleged

MASSAPEQUA, NY – The Nassau County Police Department’s Seventh Squad reports the arrest of a Freeport man following an incident that occurred on Monday, January 12, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., in Massapequa Park.

According to detectives, officers observed Samuel Dash, 58, of 78 Meister Boulevard, Freeport, operating a 2007 GMC Yukon westbound on Sunrise Highway with an obstructed and cracked side-view mirror, a violation of Vehicle and Traffic Law. Officers initiated a traffic stop and further investigation revealed that the vehicle was displaying a counterfeit New York State inspection sticker. Dash was taken into custody without incident at the scene.

While being processed at the Seventh Precinct, Dash allegedly became violent and combative, resulting in a physical struggle. Two police officers sustained injuries during the incident and were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment. Dash was also transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Dash was allegedly in possession of a substance believed to be crack cocaine, as well as numerous pills believed to be oxycodone.

Dash is charged with:

  • Two counts of Assault in the Second Degree
  • Three counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree
  • One count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree
  • One count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree
  • Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations

Dash was scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street, Hempstead. The investigation remains ongoing.
