Bellerose is a small, historic incorporated village in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County on Long Island, New York. History

The village of Bellerose was founded in the early 1900s by Helen Marsh, who envisioned building a model suburban community on farmland previously used for gladiola cultivation. Marsh oversaw construction of the first home in 1910 and successfully persuaded the Long Island Rail Road to add a station to serve the community. She chose the name Bellerose simply for its pleasing sound, and in 1917 local residents formally adopted it as the village’s name.

Bellerose incorporated as a village in 1924, enabling local self-government and home rule. Many of the village’s civic buildings, including the Village Hall and Fire House, are recognized for their historical and architectural importance.
