Far Rockaway Man Arrested in Armed Robberies at AutoZone and Freeport Insurance Office

Tony Ogarro, 61, of Far Rockaway, was arrested and charged with four counts of Robbery in the First Degree in connection with two armed robberies in North Lawrence and Freeport, according to Nassau County police. Authorities allege he displayed a handgun while demanding cash from employees at AutoZone and DCAP Insurance. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead.

FREEPORT, NY – The Nassau County Major Case Squad has arrested a Far Rockaway man in connection with two armed robberies that occurred in North Lawrence and Freeport earlier this month.

According to detectives, on Monday, January 19, 2026, at approximately 9:13 a.m., a man entered AutoZone at 711 Burnside Avenue in North Lawrence carrying a cardboard box. He approached a 34-year-old female employee and two male employees, ages 69 and 40, displayed a handgun, and demanded cash from the registers. The employees complied and placed the money into the box. The suspect then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

During the investigation, authorities determined the same individual was responsible for a January 15, 2026 armed robbery at DCAP Insurance, located at 17 West Sunrise Highway in Freeport. In that incident, the suspect also displayed a handgun while making demands and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, an electronic device, and a white pocketbook.

Following a joint investigation with the Freeport Police Department, detectives arrested Tony Ogarro, 61, of 1302 Redfern Avenue, Far Rockaway.

Ogarro has been charged with four counts of Robbery in the First Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at First District Court in Hempstead.
