MALVERNE, N.Y. — The Nassau County Homicide Squad is investigating a serious vehicular accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at approximately 12:18 p.m. in Malverne.

According to detectives, an 80-year-old woman was struck by a black Toyota Camry at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Cornwell Avenue. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she is listed in critical condition. Police say the driver fled the scene, continuing eastbound on Franklin Avenue.

Following an investigation, officers located Matthew Calabrese, 19, of King Street, Malverne, and placed him under arrest without incident.

Calabrese is charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Physical Injury. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, January 5, 2026, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
