BAY SHORE, NY– Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced that Albaro Chacon, 38, has been sentenced to 15 to 17 years in state prison following a jury conviction for Attempted Assault in the First Degree and related charges stemming from a violent stabbing of the mother of his children.
Nothing about this case was easy, and nothing can undo the harm that was done,” said District Attorney Tierney. “This sentence acknowledges the profound trauma suffered by the victim and her children, and our thoughts remain with them as they continue the long process of healing.”
The evidence presented at trial established that on November 16, 2024, the victim, who slept in a separate bedroom from Chacon, was awakened when her door was suddenly forced open. Chacon entered the room holding a knife and moved toward her, pointing it at her chest. As he attempted to stab her, Chacon told the victim, “you are going to die here.”
The victim fought to deflect the knife away from her chest and was stabbed three times in the arm. She was able to push Chacon away while also protecting her two-year-old niece, who was in the room at the time. The victim fled the bedroom and ran outside, where she flagged down a passing motorist and called 911.
While the victim waited for police to arrive, Chacon exited the house and approached her. At the same time, the victim’s six-year-old son emerged from Chacon’s car and pleaded with his father to stop. The victim then saw her five-year-old daughter inside the vehicle and realized that Chacon must have placed the children there before the stabbing, as they had been asleep in their rooms when she went to bed.
Fearing for her safety, the victim ran back inside the house. She observed that the floor where she had bled heavily had been cleaned, the home smelled strongly of bleach, and the bed sheets from the room where she was stabbed had been removed. Evidence showed that Chacon had attempted to clean the scene while the victim was outside calling for help.
Police arrived shortly thereafter, arrested Chacon, and transported the victim to South Shore University Hospital, where she received treatment for her stab wounds.
On November 19, 2025, following a jury trial before Acting Supreme Court Justice Anthony S. Senft Jr., Chacon was convicted of the following charges:
- Attempted Assault in the First Degree – Class C violent felony
- Assault in the Second Degree – Class D violent felony
- Tampering with Physical Evidence – Class E felony
- Three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child – Class A misdemeanors
On January 5, 2026, Chacon was sentenced to 15 to 17 years in state prison.
