Albaro Chacon, 38, was found guilty after a Suffolk County jury trial of attempted first-degree assault and related charges for stabbing the mother of his children while several young family members were present.

BAY SHORE, NY– Today, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced that Albaro Chacon, 38, has been found guilty after a jury trial of attempted assault in the first degree and multiple related charges stemming from the stabbing of his girlfriend, the mother of his children.

According to prosecutors, the attack occurred on November 16, 2024, inside the couple’s Brentwood residence. Trial evidence showed that the victim, who slept separately from Chacon, was jolted awake when her bedroom door flew open. Chacon entered the room holding a knife aimed at her chest and stated, “you are going to die here.” As she fought to deflect the blade, he stabbed her three times in the arm. Also in the room at the time was the victim’s two-year-old niece, whom she shielded as she struggled to push Chacon away.

The victim escaped the bedroom, ran outside, and flagged down a passing driver to contact 911. Moments later, while she waited for police, Chacon left the house and approached her. At the same time, her six-year-old son climbed out of Chacon’s vehicle and pleaded with him to stop. The victim then saw her five-year-old daughter inside the car and realized the children had been moved from their bedrooms before the stabbing.

The victim returned to the house and found that the blood she had lost during the attack had been cleaned up, the home smelled of bleach, and the bed sheets had been removed – actions prosecutors argued were attempts to destroy evidence.

Police arrived shortly afterward, arrested Chacon, and transported the victim to South Shore University Hospital, where she was treated for multiple stab wounds.

Following a trial before Acting Supreme Court Justice Anthony S. Senft, Jr., the jury found Chacon guilty on November 19, 2025, of three felonies and one misdemeanor.

  • Attempted Assault in the First Degree (Class C violent felony)
  • Assault in the Second Degree (Class D violent felony)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence (Class E felony)
  • Three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (Class A misdemeanors)

Chacon is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on January 5, 2025, where he faces a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison on the top charge.

The devastating harm inflicted by domestic violence is far reaching. The defendant stabbed his girlfriend while children were present. Those children will live with the scars of that night for the rest of their lives. I urge anyone in such a dangerous relationship to reach out for help. Call 911 or Suffolk County’s S.T.O.P. Violence Against Women Program at (631) 853-8222.”
