HUNTINGTON, NY – The Fair Media Council (FMC), a leading voice in media literacy and communication training on Long Island, announced its upcoming Masterclass & Meet the Media: Becoming a Trusted Spokesperson, set for Thursday, November 20, 2025 9 a.m.–12 noon at the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center (West End 2), inside Jones Beach State Park.

This half-day program pairs veteran communications professional George Gorman, Jr. (Regional Director, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation) with FMC’s signature “Meet & Pitch the News Media” session, offering participants direct access to working journalists and editors.

The program comprises two parts:

  • Masterclass – A deep dive into building media trust, handling crisis communications, planning press events, and staying on message when the spotlight is intense.
  • Meet & Pitch the News Media — A live exercise in interactions with reporters, where attendees present story ideas and receive feedback from a panel of journalists including: Adina Genn (Long Island Business News), Carolyn Gusoff (CBS New York), Cecilia Dowd (News12), Keith Lopez (WPIX), Sophia Hall (1010 WINS) and Terry Sheridan (WSHU Public Radio) (additional names to be confirmed).

Tickets are priced at $99 for non-members and $79 for FMC members, including continental breakfast. Space is limited, and all purchases are final sale (no refunds).

In a rapidly shifting media landscape where local outlets face consolidation and social-platform algorithms dominate attention organizations and spokespeople who can speak with clarity and credibility are at a premium. As LIBN recently reported in a profile of FMC’s programming, the council’s masterclasses are designed to “tackle many of the misconceptions and fallacies about the Long Island media market” and help organizations break through the noise.

By hosting this event on-location at a combined training and live-pitch format, FMC continues to bridge the gap between theoretical communication strategy and real-world media engagement, offering one of Long Island’s most direct paths into earned media.

Who should attend

Communications professionals, public information officers, nonprofit and business leaders, branding and PR teams—anyone who acts as the visible voice of their organization or aspires to do so.
