
NASSAU COUNTY, NY – Detectives from the Fifth Squad have arrested a Michigan man following a violent altercation that took place Sunday night, October 19, 2025, at approximately 9:30 p.m. in Elmont.
Police say officers were called to a residence on Norfeld Boulevard after reports of a disturbance. Investigators determined that a verbal dispute between James D. Nelson, 59, of Pontiac, Michigan, and a 59-year-old female acquaintance escalated into physical violence. During the altercation, Nelson allegedly struck the victim several times in the face and head with a closed fist and damaged her television.
When officers arrived, Nelson was reportedly combative and resisted arrest, injuring two responding officers in the process. Police deployed both a Taser and OC (pepper) spray to subdue him safely. Nelson, the victim, and the two injured officers were all transported to nearby hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
Nelson has been charged with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, and Resisting Arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, October 20, 2025, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
