MELVILLE, NY – Long Island’s original haunted farm is back and scarier than ever. Schmitt’s Farm Haunt opened for its 32nd season Friday, October 3, 2025, transforming the family’s historic farm stand into a sprawling Halloween horror experience filled with new sets, professional actors, and pulse-pounding effects.

Running through November 2, the attraction features two main haunted experiences – the Haunted House and the Haunted Corn Trail – plus a midway with live entertainment, photo ops, food vendors, and Halloween merchandise. For many local thrill-seekers, a visit to Schmitt’s has become a fall tradition.

Watch the official trailer below to see what awaits inside the haunt.

A Long Island Halloween Tradition

First opened in the early 1990s, Schmitt’s Farm Haunt is widely recognized as Long Island’s oldest haunted attraction. What began as a small family-run Halloween display on the grounds of Schmitt’s Family Farm has grown into a fully immersive, professionally staged haunt that attracts visitors from across New York.

The Haunt’s creative team redesigns portions of the experience each year, introducing new rooms, animatronics, lighting effects, and storylines. From fog-filled corridors to open-air corn mazes lit only by the moon, Schmitt’s offers a mix of classic jump scares and modern theatrical production.

“We want every year to feel completely different,” says a representative from Schmitt’s creative crew. “Our fans expect surprises – and we love finding new ways to deliver them.”

What to Expect in 2025

Visitors can choose from two main attractions – or brave both for the full experience:

  • The Haunted House: A labyrinth of horror featuring detailed sets, costumed actors, animatronics, and sensory effects. Expect everything from eerie hallways and asylum scenes to haunted crypts and grotesque creatures lurking in the dark.
  • The Haunted Corn Trail: Take your chances outdoors through rows of corn stalks filled with lurking terrors. With minimal lighting and natural soundscapes, this trail is all about suspense and surprise.

Between haunts, guests can unwind at the midway, which includes food concessions, photo ops, Halloween merch, and occasional live performers.

Behind the Scares

Unlike temporary pop-up haunted houses, Schmitt’s Haunt operates with a dedicated build crew that spends months constructing and testing every scene. Makeup artists, set designers, sound engineers, and actors all play a role in creating a cinematic horror environment.

In recent years, the team has introduced synchronized lighting systems, fog effects, and live-trigger animatronics that respond to guests’ movements – bringing each nightmare to life.

It’s not about just being scary,” says one of the haunt’s makeup designers. “It’s about atmosphere. When you walk in, you should feel like you’ve stepped into a horror movie.”

Why It’s a Must-See

With over three decades of screams behind it, Schmitt’s Farm Haunt remains a benchmark for Halloween attractions on Long Island. It’s the perfect night out for horror fans, thrill seekers, and anyone who loves a good fright – and it continues to evolve with every passing season.

From the eerie glow of the cornfield to the pounding soundtrack inside the house, Schmitt’s delivers a mix of nostalgia and next-level production that keeps guests coming back year after year.
