ROOSEVELT, NY – A Roosevelt man was arrested after allegedly threatening police officers with a metallic object and injuring two of them while resisting arrest, Nassau County police said.

According to detectives, officers responded to a disturbance call on Brookside Avenue in Roosevelt around 2:53 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025. While investigating the situation, the suspect – identified as Shabaz Hall, 32 – allegedly became irate, picked up a metallic object, and raised it toward the officers in a threatening manner.

When police attempted to take Hall into custody, he became combative and resisted arrest, resulting in two officers sustaining injuries. Both were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and later released.

Charges and Court Appearance

Hall is charged with:

  • Two counts of Assault in the Second Degree
  • Menacing in the Second Degree
  • Menacing in the Third Degree
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree
  • Harassment in the Second Degree

He was scheduled for arraignment on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.

Under New York law, Assault in the Second Degree is a Class D violent felony, carrying a potential prison sentence of up to seven years. Because Hall faces two counts of that charge, his total exposure could be as high as 14 years if sentences were imposed consecutively, though courts typically run them concurrently. The remaining menacing, weapon possession, and harassment charges are misdemeanors and violations that would likely merge into the felony count at sentencing. If convicted, Hall could face anywhere from two to seven years in state prison, depending on plea negotiations, the severity of the officers’ injuries, and any prior criminal record.
