SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney today announced the arrest of Nassau County Police Officer Leonard Cagno, 39, of Oakdale, who is accused of misappropriating a $200,000 investment from a fellow officer and using the money for personal expenses. Cagno has been charged with Grand Larceny in the Second Degree, a Class C felony.
According to investigators, between February and June 2024, Cagno solicited $200,000 from a colleague who was recovering from a serious illness. He allegedly represented the payment as an investment in his private company, BW Media Consulting, LLC. Instead, prosecutors say he diverted the funds to cover personal costs, including the purchase of a vehicle, credit card debt payments, mortgage expenses, gambling, restaurant charges, and subscriptions to online platforms such as OnlyFans.
Financial records reviewed during the investigation show that within two months of receiving the investment, Cagno had allegedly depleted the entire amount.
Cagno was taken into custody on September 17, 2025, and arraigned before Acting County Court Judge Jennifer A. Henry. Because the charge is non-bail eligible under current New York State law, Judge Henry ordered his release on his own recognizance. Cagno is scheduled to return to court on October 22, 2025. He is being represented by John Manley, Esq.
District Attorney Tierney emphasized the seriousness of the case, noting that the defendant is accused of betraying the trust of a fellow officer for personal gain.
The allegations here represent a shocking abuse of the essential trust that exists between fellow police officers” said District Attorney Tierney. “This defendant is alleged to have preyed upon that trust for his own financial gain, and in so doing, violated one of the most important bonds in law enforcement.”
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Patrick Rooney of the Public Corruption Bureau following an investigation by the District Attorney’s Public Corruption Squad.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office urges anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Leonard Cagno to contact investigators at (631) 853-4626.
