QUEENS, NY – Flushing’s USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is about to transform into a summer festival-meets-sports arena when US Open Fan Week takes over from Monday, August 18 through Saturday, August 23, 2025. The entire USTA complex will be open to the public free of charge, offering a unique blend of high-level tennis, vibrant entertainment, interactive experiences, and renowned food offerings creating a lively prelude to the Grand Slam’s main draw.

Tennis at the Center of It All

Fan Week coincides with the start of the US Open’s qualifying rounds, welcoming fans to watch emerging talents vie for a place in the singles main draw on the field courts. Practice sessions are also open, sometimes inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, letting fans catch glimpses of top players as they fine-tune their game.

The championship’s traditional mixed doubles competition moves into the spotlight this year, with its opening matches played during Fan Week on August 19 and 20. With a $1 million prize at stake, this event features 16 teams and innovative scoring formats, including no-ad scoring and match tiebreakers.

Entertainment beyond the Court

Fan Week embraces experiential flair with a fresh slate of no-cost entertainment. A silent disco will launch the week’s festivities on Monday evening at Fountain Plaza, where partygoers can choose from color-coded headphone playlists spanning Top‑40, retro throwbacks, and Latin/Hip‑Hop fusion.

Midweek, the Stars of the Open exhibition brings together a star-studded lineup – including the likes of Coco Gauff, Venus Williams, John McEnroe, and Andre Agassi – offering fans an exciting showcase of tennis flair and celebrity appeal.

Friday’s US Open Block Party ramps up the energy with DJ D‑Nice and Beverly Bond leading a nighttime festival-style celebration for ticketed attendees.

Family-Friendly Highlights

On Saturday, August 23, Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day returns, delivering engaging, tennis-themed activities designed to inspire and entertain the next generation.

Autograph & Player Interaction Tips

Fan Week is one of the best times of the year for tennis fans to meet their favorite players in a relaxed, approachable setting. While nothing is guaranteed, here are a few ways to improve your chances:

  • Scout the Practice Courts: Players often sign autographs after practice sessions, especially on the outer courts where fan access is easier.
  • Arrive Early: Being in place before practice or match warm-ups gives you the best shot at a quick signature or photo.
  • Bring the Right Gear: Permanent markers and large, easy-to-sign items like oversized tennis balls, hats, or programs are ideal.
  • Stay Polite and Patient: Players are more likely to engage with respectful, enthusiastic fans than pushy crowds.
  • Know the Schedule: Keep an eye on the official Fan Week schedule for Media Day and exhibition matches—these are high-probability autograph moments.

A Brief History of US Open Fan Week

US Open Fan Week began as an informal way to give fans a peek at player practices and qualifying matches without the price tag of main-draw tickets. Over the years, it has grown into a multi-day festival blending competitive tennis, entertainment, music, food, and interactive brand experiences.

The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center now opens its gates for six full days of free programming leading up to the main tournament, drawing thousands of visitors daily. What was once a quiet pre-tournament period has transformed into a celebration that includes celebrity appearances, kids’ events, cultural performances, and top-tier culinary offerings alongside the sport.

First-Timer’s Guide to the US Open

For those making their first trip to the US Open during Fan Week, a little planning can go a long way:

  • Getting There: The easiest routes from Long Island include the LIRR Port Washington Branch to Mets-Willets Point Station or driving via the Long Island Expressway to the stadium parking lots.
  • Dress for the Weather: Flushing Meadows can be hot and sunny in August, so bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water.
  • Plan Your Food Stops: Fan Week features an expanded food village with offerings from celebrity chefs and New York favorites – crowds get lighter earlier in the day.
  • Explore the Grounds: With free admission, take time to wander between practice courts, outer match courts, and sponsor activation areas.
  • Stay for Evening Events: Many of the entertainment features, like silent discos and live music, happen after the tennis winds down.
