
ELMONT, NY – A Brooklyn man was arrested Sunday afternoon following a domestic violence incident in Elmont that escalated into a physical confrontation with responding officers, according to Nassau County Police.
Police say the incident occurred around 2:21 p.m. on July 13 at a residence on G Street, where officers responded to a report of a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 34-year-old male suspect, identified as Kareem Howell of Ralph Avenue in Brooklyn, had been involved in a verbal altercation with a 32-year-old female victim.
Authorities say the argument turned physical, with Howell allegedly striking the victim multiple times and forcibly taking her cell phone. Fearing for her safety, the victim fled the residence and contacted police.
When officers arrived on the scene, Howell reportedly attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended nearby. During efforts to place him into custody, police say Howell became violent and combative, resulting in injuries to two officers. The injured officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Howell was also taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
The suspect is facing multiple charges, including:
- Assault in the Second Degree (2 counts)
- Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree
- Harassment in the Second Degree
- Resisting Arrest
Howell is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday, July 14, at First District Court, located at 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
