Prior Felony Offender Found Guilty of Shooting Victim Outside  Royal Bar and Billiards in Mount Sinai

According to the Suffolk DA, prior to this incident, Jonathan Redar, 33, of Miller Place, had multiple felony convictions, including third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance in 2016 and attempted second-degree assault in 2012. He is scheduled for sentencing on June 10, 2025, and faces up to 25 years in prison.

MOUNT SINAI – On May 7, 2025, Jonathan Redar, 33, of Miller Place, New York, was convicted by a Suffolk County jury of first-degree assault and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. The charges stem from a shooting incident that occurred outside Royal Bar and Billiards in Mount Sinai on May 7, 2024.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Redar and a relative engaged in an argument in the bar’s parking lot around 2 a.m. During the altercation, Redar produced a firearm and discharged a single shot, striking the victim in the left forearm and abdomen. The victim sustained severe injuries, including shattered bones and organ damage, necessitating emergency surgery at Stony Brook Hospital. Redar fled the scene but was apprehended by Suffolk County Police detectives on May 15, 2024, at a Walmart in Yaphank.

Prior to this incident, Redar had multiple felony convictions, including third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance in 2016 and attempted second-degree assault in 2012. He is scheduled for sentencing on June 10, 2025, and faces up to 25 years in prison. Assistant District Attorneys Sean E. Buckley and Jeremy Waite prosecuted the case, with investigative support from Detective Gregory Marino of the Suffolk County Police Department’s Sixth Squad and District Attorney Investigator Daniel Gallagher.
