Jamaica Man Charged With Assault, Resisting Arrest, Petit Larceny At Macy’s In Valley Stream

According to detectives, Oswald A. Bryan, 51, of Jamaica, entered Macy’s, selected various merchandise, and concealed the items in a reusable bag. The defendant then attempted to exit the store without payment, but was met by Officers and Asset Protection.

VALLEY STREAM, NY – A Queens man was apprehended by the Nassau County Fifth Squad after an incident that took place on Thursday, March 21, 2024, in Valley Stream. Oswald A. Bryan, a 51-year-old resident of 159th Street, Jamaica, was taken into custody for his actions at Macy’s on 1000 Green Acres Road.

According to detectives, Bryan entered the department store and proceeded to select various items. He then made his way to the dressing room, where he concealed the merchandise in a reusable bag. Bryan attempted to leave the store without paying for the items, but was intercepted by both Officers and Asset Protection personnel.

As the officers tried to arrest Bryan, he resisted and attempted to flee the scene. After a brief struggle, the officers were able to subdue him. Unfortunately, one of the officers sustained an injury during the arrest and required medical attention at a nearby hospital.

Oswald A. Bryan is facing multiple charges, including Assault in the Second Degree, Resisting Arrest, Obstructing Governmental Administration, and Petit Larceny. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, March 22, 2024, at the First District Court located on 99 Main Street in Hempstead.
