Intense storm hits New York City - amateur video. One person died when a massive, powerful, and fast-moving storm slammed New York City and surrounding areas Thursday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue tornado warnings for parts of New York and New Jersey. The storm, with winds up to 100mph (160kph), tore through neighborhoods of Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island, knocking down dozens of trees throughout the area.
