NY, NY, United States (NewsBahn) – The New York Rangers edged the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 Sunday, though the latter team still backed into the playoffs via the Boston Bruins loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Kevin Hayes, Dan Boyle and Dylan McIlrath tallied for the Blueshirts who still don’t know their postseason opponent.

Antti Raanta started for the Rangers in place of Henrik Lundqvist and stopped 31 shots.

Jimmy Howard was less busy between the pipes for Detroit, halting 17 shots in the loss.

Justin Abdelkader and Riley Sheahan scored for the Wings, who will play the Lightning in the opening round.

The playoffs start Wednesday after two games cap the season Sunday.
